Cooking this jasmine rice has elevated our family meals, making it a staple in our kitchen.
Spanish rice was always a staple growing up. The problem is I could never make it taste as good as my mom makes it. I can follow her recipe to a tee but it’s one of those things that I can never duplicate.
What I can duplicate however, is this amazing white rice. It took me a while to get here and I wish I could give credit to the countless youtubers, blogs and tik tokers that eventually brought me to where I am today. This place of rice nirvana.
As a Mexican, I never thought I would like plain white rice but something came over me when I was pregnant with my 2nd. Since then I’ve never looked back. I combine it with absolutely everything, chicken, tofu, veggies, beans. The possibilities are endless.
Follow these simple steps to achieve fluffy, fragrant rice every time.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup jasmine rice
- 1 cup water
Note: You can also use the finger method explained below.
Instructions:
- Rinse the Rice: Start by rinsing the jasmine rice three times. This helps remove excess starch, ensuring the rice is light and fluffy.
- Measure and Combine: Use a 1:1 ratio of rice to water. For this recipe, combine 1 cup of jasmine rice with 1 cup of water in a medium-sized pot. However, my favorite tried and true way to measure is using my index finger. A simple way of measuring is to add rice until the first knuckle of your finger and add water until the second. You can also simply use your finger to see how high the rice is on your finger when touching the bottom of the pan and then place the same finger just on top of the rice and putting the same amount of water.
- Bring to a Boil: Place the pot on the stove over medium-high heat. Bring the water and rice to a boil.
- Stir and Simmer: Once boiling, stir the rice gently with a wooden spoon. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 15 minutes.
- Rest the Rice: After 15 minutes, turn off the stove but keep the pot covered. Let the rice sit for an additional 5 minutes. This allows the steam to finish cooking the rice.
- Fluff and Serve: Uncover the pot and fluff the rice with a fork. Your perfect jasmine rice is now ready to serve!
Tips for Success:
- Use a Wooden Spoon: Stirring with a wooden spoon helps prevent the rice from breaking.
- Keep the Lid On: Avoid lifting the lid while the rice is simmering to ensure even cooking.
- Resting Time: The extra 5 minutes of resting time is crucial for achieving the perfect texture.
Enjoy your perfectly cooked jasmine rice as a side dish or the base for your favorite recipes! ๐
